Process Optimisation for Print OutputOverview
Input ProcessingDuring input processing, incoming spools are separated and, if necessary, converted into another format. Data essential for further processing are extracted, like postal data, bundling indicators, index information for archiving and data about sheet, page numbers and enclosure/insert data. Required criteria for document separation and extractable data are gathered by field-related captures, eyecatcher searches and any programmable logic. Intelligent address reading guarantees a correct address data assignment to address fields even if data show line skips. Document SelectionBased on the documents repository DocBridge Pilot can define and compile processing jobs by ready-made queries. They allow the processing with criteria for bundling and criteria with limitations for special mailing products and processing classes. Thus, operators can plan the production processes more efficiently taking advantage of information of those processing jobs. Input Spool Catalog and Documents Repository Parts of DocBridge Pilot's process control environment are relational databases where all data are stored. Operator ConsoleDocBridge Pilot is provided with a browser-based operator console and runs on Apache, Tomcat or Websphere webservers. Combined with Compart software product DocBridge View, the console offers a comfortable user administration and preview tool for input spools and generated output documents. BundlingDocBridge Pilot's standard bundling compiles documents according to predefined criteria, e.g. "one mailing per day and customer". The component bundling holds up a process start until all document parts are available. The bundling exclusion prevents undesired bundling combinations (e.g. condolence letter not together with a prize contest letter). Additionally, bundling sequences can be defined (e.g. welcome letter in front of invoice document). DP PostageDocBridge Pilot supports Royal Mail and Other Postal Services according to the guidelines of Royal Mail including Walksort, Mailsort 120 and Mailsort 700 through the integration of certified software products. The administration of inbound mail pieces is possible. Output GenerationLooking at the complete process, print job generation starts as late as possible, i.e. job generation is tuned with appropriate printing and inserter systems. Depending on the print volume the best possible printer hardware can be selected, e.g. output to PostScript cut-sheet printer or AFP continuous-forms printer. Jobs can be processed with channel instead of tray selection (e.g. bank transfer form) and OMR marks can be configured. Logical jobs can be split into several print jobs for load sharing reasons (cluster printing). In case of reprints (hardware failure or the like) jobs can be restarted on others printers, e.g. small reprints move from continuous forms to low volume cut-sheet printer. Other output media than paper is available: fax, e-mail or archive systems.
